Guild Esports, which is co-owned by former soccer player David Beckham, has announced that the newly formed esports organization will make its entry into professional Rocket League. The team will compete in the recently announced RLCS X series whose format was first revealed by The Esports Observer.
Guild Esports described the selection process for finding players as “rigorous.” Ultimately Guild bought out the contracts of two former Team Singularity players, Joseph “Noly” Kidd and Thomas “ThO” Binkhorst. They are joined by player Kyle “Scrub Killa” Robertson head coach Mike ‘Gregan’ Ellis.
According to the announcement, Beckham will be “hands-on” with this new team, helping players to focus on learning how to handle the stress of esports, living a healthy lifestyle, and dealing with mental health issues. He will also mentor the academy team.
In June, the Rocket League Esports Championship Series announced that it would be moving away from a static league system and will now create a series of events in a more open structure that would allow for more teams to compete.
